Designer - Sakari Vapaavuori
Sakari Vapaavuori (Born 1920 in Tyrvälä d. 1989 in Espoo) studied as a ceramist in the Central School of Art and Design from 1942 - 1945. After that he had his own workshop in Helsinki until 1947, then he began to work in Arabian factory until 1974. He worked in the art department 1947 - 1974, and as a Director of Department of Arts and Crafts in 1963 and an exhibition architect, 1965-69.
He is known for nonfigurative and unique sculptures, which were made using outdoors lasting rough mass of the brick facade, which were supposed to last, in variable weather conditions. Abstract, conceptual works were intended to be placed in parks and public spaces, where forms came to life.
In addition to his work, Sakari was active in the silicate industry and worked as a teacher Art and Design. He also designed sanitary porcelain for Arabia Factories.
