Designer - Oiva Toikka
Oiva Toikka (Born 1931 in Viipuri) is a ceramist by training, who has made significant career as a glass artist and designer at Nuuttajärvi and Iittala's glass factories. He has also worked in 1990's in Rörstand's porcelain factory.
In Arabia he worked in the art department 1956 - 1959, when he made many designs in the spirits of European art ceramics, suchs as chamotte works in Romulus, Remus and the wolf of Rome and the Etruscan-minded animal sculptures. Later in the 1990's he worked as a visiting artist and in his designs such as wallplates and dishware decorations had insprations from graphics and simplified pattern repetitions.
For materials Toikka has used mainly faience, and stoneware, which changing color range has born besauce of combustion experiments.After graduating to ceramic artist from the Central School of Art and Design Hilkka Säynäjärvi (b. 1917) worked in Arabian Art Department as an artist 1945 - 1952.
In the Art Department he designed and wheel-turned, and designed bowls and small vases, which were made from the factorys high fuel masses, he used stoneware glazing. In addition, he made romantic-themed relieft and co-designed with Ritva Kaukoranta and Raija Tuumi the tourist production, where young designer's, were free to glaze little items that were made at the factory. Later Säynäjärvi Hilkka has worked as a freelancer ceramic artist and illustrator.
