Designer - Inkeri Leivo
INKERI LEIVO (born 1944 in Helsinki) graduated from the Institute of Industrial Arts in 1970 and the next year she started work in Arabia Department of Product Design, two first years as a decorative designer. She has designed tableware models, decorations and unique pieces in which bold material experiments play a significant role. In Contrary to the era's fashionable, massive, dark dishes - graceful, light and round shaped KS model I. Design of Arctica began in 1975.
Lighter Arctica, compared to the earlier earthenware tableware, was born from new blend of proportion of mass. In the 1980's born tableware were Saaristo and Harlekiini, of which designs have sculptured roundness of water of natural stones, the 1930's elegance and playfulness of art deco. Inkeri Leivo has also made unique works of which the most famous are paper thing bone porcelain pieces functioning with tensions of light and shadow.
