Designer - Annikki Hovisaari
ANNIKKI HOVISAARI (born 1918 in Tampere, died 2004 Tampere) studied ceramics at the Central School of Art and Design from 1946 to 1949 after which she began to work in the Arabia Department of Industrial Art. She designed and made mainly decorative item sets and production of the Department of Industrial Art but wheel-turned also during that time own unique works.
Hovisaari moved to the Art Department in 1963 where formed distinctive to her wheel-turned and shaped large basins, bowls and bottles made of coarse chamote mass, porcelain and earthenware. Ornaments she impelemented with colour glazes and sometimes by carving.
The production is labeled with cobolt blue and copper sulphate contented green metal shining combinations as well as brown and grey earthen shades which highlight the rough surface of the mass or correspondingly brightens up the smooth surface of the item. Annikki Hovisaari took actively part in international exhibitions in the 1950's and 1960's and in 1962 she was awarded with the first prize i.a. in Gualdo Tadino ceramics contest in Italy and ten years later in Vallauris, France.
