Designer - Anja Juurikkala

After graduating from the Central School of Art and Design in 1946 ANJA JUURIKKALA (born 1923 in Heinola) she started working in Arabia Department of Casting. She was a talented potter and after changing to Arabia Department of Industrial Arts in 1950 after two years spent working in Norway she continued designing flat goods i.a. different kinds of tray and bowl models. Her specialities were miniature figures describing animal, Lappish and folksy living which she worked on and decorated herself.

She also designed for production plenty of dishware decorations of which the most famous were sea theme hand painted Aqvarium and Krabba, blown ornament Heluna and decorative copper weight Runo. Juurikkala herself painted her ornaments and used i.a. chrome as paint. Since leaving Arabia in 1960 she has worked as a teacher and a sculptor.
